Community Resources
Moosalla Noor Islamic Community Outreach Services - This is a local non profit organization in Ithaca, NY. They provide an "inclusive and open environment that encourages people of all backgrounds and levels of faith to gather, discuss, learn, and practice the fundamental teachings of Islam..." The Islamic Community Outreach is a resource to help connect with local scholars and bring in guest speakers to educate and discuss Islam.
Binghamton University has a few resources that I wanted to highlight, even though it is an hour away. There is the Global Gateway and Multicultural Resource Center. Both of these offer list of culture organizations and global resources in the Greater Binghamton area from cultural performances on campus to cultural groups in Broome County. This would be an excellent resource for any performing arts or humanities class.
Multicultural Resource Center - As stated on their home page -- Education. Community. Organizing. The Multicultural Resources Center collaborates with community members and educational institutions to offer programs like talking circles, book reviews, film reviews, mentoring programs, sister friends and a resource hub for anyone in the community to borrow and read. The MRC is an excellent resource if you are looking for community support or someone to help lead small focus groups.
Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies Events at Cornell - Lectures, films, seminars, conferences and workshops are offered to the public. If you cannot arrange a school field trip, these events at Cornell are excellent opportunities for teachers to connect with the presenters and bring in guest speakers to facilitate discussion on a variety of current global topics.
Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies Southeast Asia Program - The Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies is increasing global understanding of Southeast Asia through this program as an U.S. Department of Education National Resource Center (NRC). They have a "resources for educators" tab, which offers the opportunity to partner with the SEAP scholars who are dedicated to help understand Southeast Asia's languages, history, culture, and societies of the region.
