Week two was coming to an end and Team Rabat decided to make another trek to the Northwest of Morocco. We visited a small town called Chefchaouen. We traveled through the country side mainly on switchback roads through the Rif Mountains. The views were great, and many of us spent time taking in the drastic scenery change. As we arrived, Carl treated us to the Eiffel 65 song, "I'm Blue." Genius, Carl, well played!
We even had the opportunity to visit the Kasbah in Chefchaouen. At the very bottom there are some photos of inside the grounds and from the tower. It is hard to tell because my photos don't capture the full surroundings, but the top of the tower has a great view of the whole town. Usually every Moroccan city has a Kasbah where the ruling family (sheik or king) once lived. This structure would provide a viewpoint to watch for approaching and unwanted guests.
From Wikipedia: The name refers to the shape of the mountain tops above the town, that look like the two horns (chaoua) of a goat. "Chef Chaouen" derives from the Berber word for horns, Ichawen.
Enjoy!
